Do I Need a Visa for Uzbekistan?
Yes. All US citizens traveling to Uzbekistan must have a visa to enter the country. A visa is even required to transit through Uzbekistan, and all visas must be obtained prior to arrival in the country. Your accommodations in Uzbekistan will determine the type of visa that is required for your stay. If you are staying a hotel, you will apply for a tourist visa. If you are staying in a private residence with friends or family, you will apply for a private visitor visa, and an official letter of invitation is required for this visa type. This invitation must be applied for by the person you are staying with at the Office of Entry, Exit, and Citizenship Issues in Uzbekistan before beginning the visa process. The official letter will include a telex number, and this must be included with the visa application materials. In addition to a visa, it is also necessary to have a valid passport to travel to Uzbekistan.
