Sudan Visa

Do I Need a Visa for Sudan?

Yes. All US citizens must have a visa to travel to Sudan, and this visa must be obtained via the Embassy of Sudan in Washington, DC, in advance of arrival. It is also necessary to have a valid passport. Be advised that the Sudanese authorities typically will not issue a visa if your passport shows that you have traveled to Israel. If you have an Israeli entry stamp in your passport and need a visa to Sudan, you will likely need to obtain a second passport for this trip. Within three days of arrival in Sudan, all travelers must register with the Ministry of the Interior. In order to travel more than 25 kilometers outside of the capital city of Khartoum, you must obtain a travel permit from the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs in Sudan. Without this permit, you can be detained by the authorities, and this regulation is strictly enforced.
