A visa is required for US citizens to travel to Uganda as is a passport that will be valid for 6 months after your date of entry. Visas for Uganda can permit a single or multiple entry. Note that the visa to Uganda will not determine how long you can stay in the country after you enter; the length of stay will be subject to the immigration officer’s discretion at your port of entry. Typically, you will be permitted to stay in Uganda for two weeks to three months, depending on the details of your trip. Uganda imposes heavy fines if you overstay the duration of your visa, so pay close attention to this.

No. Uganda discontinued the visa on arrival program that used to be offered at the Entebbe Airport on July 1, 2016. As of August 1, 2016, all visas to Uganda must be obtained in advance. The country offered a grace period as the new visa requirements took effect, but airlines are now being advised to deny boarding to passengers to Uganda who do not possess a valid visa. Whether you are entering Uganda by land or by air, you will most likely be denied entry if you have not obtained your visa in advance. Uganda does allow visa applications to be submitted electronically, and Passport Health can assist you with obtaining an evisa, as well as the typical paper visa.
Can I Enter Uganda on an East Africa Tourist Visa?
If you are traveling between Uganda, Rwanda, and Kenya, you may enter all three countries on an East Africa Tourist visa. Obtaining one visa instead of three separate ones saves you significant time completing paperwork, and it saves you money on consular fees. This visa is only available for tourist travel, however, and no work is permitted under this visa class. The East African Tourist visa permits multiple entries between Uganda, Rwanda, and Kenya for a period of 90 days.
