Do I Need a Visa for Madagascar?
All travelers to Madagascar need a visa.
Tourist visas are valid for up to 90 days. Business visas are valid for up to 5 years.
Business visas for stays longer than 90 days must be obtained through the Madagascar embassy in the US. Once issued, the visa holder has one month to enter Madagascar and apply for the visa to be extended by Madagascar’s Ministry of Interior.

What Do I Need for a Madagascar Visa?
Non-extendable tourist visas are available upon arrival or in advance. They can also be obtained electronically.
The essential requirement for a Madagascar visa is a passport that is valid for at least 6 months from time of entry and has at least three blank pages. Additional requirements vary depending on the type of visa and the length of stay.
Proof of a yellow fever vaccination is required only if the applicant has been to a yellow fever endemic country within the last six months. Additional health precautions are strongly encouraged.
A tourist visa upon arrival requires a passport with at least six months validity from the time of entry. If you want to obtain a tourist visa in advance, you can apply online or present the following documents to the consulate.
Valid passport
- Valid for at least six months from time of entry
- Three blank pages
Two passport photos
- Taken within the last six months
- Taken against a white background
Proof of return or onward travel
- A copy of confirmation of your round-trip ticket
- Should have the applicant’s name on it
Proof of yellow fever vaccination if recently visited an effected area
- International certificate of yellow fever vaccination will be required only if the applicant has been to a country where yellow fever is endemic within the last six months.
Business travelers must submit the following with their Madagascar visa application. Business visas are available in two forms – short and long term.
In addition to a completed application form, the following items are required:

- Taken against a white background

Business Letter from Sponsoring Company
- Should be addressed to Embassy of Madagascar, Visa Section, Washington DC
- Including name and address of company
- Explaining nature of business performed
- Guarantees sufficient financial support for applicant
Criminal background check
- Obtained within the last three months
Identification of Company Manager
- Malagasy National ID card if a citizen of Madagascar
- Copy of residence permit if not a citizen of Madagascar

How Much Do Madagascar Visas Cost?
Visa fees can change at any time, based on decisions by the Madagascar government. Fees generally do not include service charges, postage and other related costs.
Business visas start around $50, tourist visas cost about $30 but can exceed $50. All on-arrival visas must be paid in cash, prepare accordingly.
Are Any Vaccines Required for Madagascar?
