Do I Need a Visa for India?
American travelers to India must have a visa for entry. Some additional documents may be required based on your reason for travel.
Most visas are valid for six months and cannot be extended.

What Do I Need for a India Visa Application?
A variety of visa types are available for travelers to India. The most common are tourist and business visas.
Do note, the Indian government may change the visa process at any time or request additional information from travelers.
To find out what documents are necessary to get your visa, see the tab corresponding to the visa you are applying for:
Passport:
- Be valid for the next six months
- Must have one blank page for the visa stamp
Photograph:
- Taken within the last three months and printed on high-quality photo paper
- Taken against an all white background
- Be two inches by two inches
- Provide the full frontal view of your head with neutral expression
Driver’s License or Second Form of ID:
- Home address matches address on passport
Proof of Travel:
- Ticket or itinerary that displays your round trip travel and entry and exit dates for your destination
- Show the traveler’s full name as printed on passport
Minor Authorization Form (if traveling with anyone under 18):
- A notarized letter of consent from both parents or legal guardian
- Child’s birth certificate
- Copy of both parents’ photo ID
Applicants traveling in the following areas require a restricted area permit: Arunachal Pradesh, parts of Himachal Pradesh, parts of Jammu and Kashmir, parts of Rajasthan, Sikkim and parts of Uttarakhand.

How Much Do India Visas Cost?
India visa costs vary based on the type of visa one is applying for. It is not uncommon for a visa to cost over $100. The Indian government reserves the right to change fee amounts at any time.
Keep in mind, there are other costs like postage, service fees or postage that are not included in the cost of a visa fee.
Are Any Vaccines Required for India?
Yes, the Indian government may require proof of yellow fever vaccination for travelers entering the country from regions with yellow fever or who recently visited those areas. Other vaccinations like typhoid or Japanese encephalitis may be recommended based on your specific itinerary.
