Do I Need a Visa for Nigeria?

Yes, a visa is required for travel to Nigeria. Requirements can change at any time basesd on the needs of the Nigerian government.

Visas are generally valid for a 90 day period and may be extended for an additional 90 days, based on government approval.

What Do I Need for a Nigeria Visa Application?

The documents needed for a Nigerian visa can vary based on the type of visa being applied for. This includes a difference in fees, documents and other items requested.

The Nigerian government has the ability to request additional documents at any time based on your reason for travel. Make sure you have everything ready before submitting your Nigeria visa application.

Passport:

  • Be valid at time of entry
  • Contain at least one blank visa pages for the visa stamp

Photograph:

  • Taken within the last three months and printed on high-quality photo paper
  • Taken against an all white background
  • Be two inches by two inches
  • Provide the full frontal view of your head with neutral expression

Driver’s License or Second Form of ID:

  • Home address matches passport

Proof of Travel:

  • Ticket or itinerary that displays your round trip travel and entry and exit dates for your destination
  • Show the traveler’s full name as printed on passport

Minor Authorization Form (if traveling with anyone under 18):

  • A notarized letter of consent from both parents or legal guardian
  • Child’s birth certificate
  • Copy of both parents’ photo ID

Proof of Sufficient Funds:

  • Include a copy of your 3 most recent bank statements showing the available balance for use

Letter of Invitation From Host:

  • Include a copy of your host’s Nigerian passport
  • State that the host in Nigeria will be accepting immigration responsibility for you

Passport:

  • Be valid at time of entry
  • Contain at least one blank visa pages for the visa stamp

Photograph:

  • Taken within the last three months and printed on high-quality photo paper

How Much Do Nigeria Visas Cost?

Nigerian visa fees start at $160, but can be over $250 depending on type of travel and needs of the traveler. The Nigerian government reserves the right to adjust pricing at-will based on a variety of factors.

The money paid for the visa fee does not include service fees requested by the Nigerian government, cost of postage, processing etc.

Are Any Vaccines Required for Nigeria?

Proof of yellow fever vaccination is required if traveling from a region where the disease is present. But, the CDC and WHO recommend vaccination for all travelers. Other vaccinations like typhoid and cholera are also recommended.

All U.S. citizens visiting Nigeria should register with the STEP program before their trip. This State Department program provides extra information and support in case of emergency. Passport Health’s travel documents staff can assist you in registering.
