Do I Need a Visa for Brazil?

A visa is required to enter Brazil for all U.S. citizens.

Tourist visas last 90 days and may be extended once for an additional 90 days. The Brazilian government may require extra materials from business travelers and/or provide less time in-country.

Proof of return or onward travel may be required for your visa. It may also be required when entering the country.

What Do I Need for a Brazil Visa Application?

Countries often require different items for different visas. The application process may differ depending on the type of visa you’re interested in obtaining.

The Brazilian government may change this process at any time and may request additional materials during the visa process.

Applicants for a Brazilian visa will require, at minimum: a passport, passport-sized photo, driver’s license, proof of travel and a completed application. Minors may be required to have additional items.

Each one of these items have specific requirements that must be met. Do note, these requirements can change quickly and may differ based on your specific situation.

Passport:

  • Be valid for the next six months
  • Contain at least two consecutive blank visa pages for the visa stamp

Photograph:

  • Taken within the last three months and printed on high-quality photo paper
  • Taken against an all white background
  • Be two inches by two inches
  • Provide the full frontal view of your head with neutral expression

Driver’s License or Second Form of ID:

  • Home address matches passport

Proof of Travel:

  • Ticket or itinerary that displays your round trip travel and entry and exit dates for your destination
  • Show the traveler’s full name as printed on passport

Minor Form (if traveling with a minor):

  • A notarized letter of consent from both parents or legal guardian
  • Child’s birth certificate
  • Copy of both parents’ photo ID

Passport:

  • Be valid for the next six months
  • Contain at least two consecutive blank visa pages for the visa stamp

Photograph:

  • Taken within the last three months and printed on high-quality photo paper
  • Taken against an all white background
  • Be two inches by two inches
  • Provide the full frontal view of your head with neutral expression

Business Cover Letter:

  • Must include your specific purpose of travel
  • Must state that “No technical assistance will be performed while in Brazil”.

How Much Do Brazil Visas Cost?

Brazil visa fees range from $160 to over $300 depending on your reason for travel and length of stay. The Brazilian government sets visa fees and can change them at any time.

The money paid for the visa fee does not include service fees levied by the Brazilian government, cost of postage, processing etc.

Are Any Vaccines Required for Brazil?

Currently, Brazil has no vaccination requirements for entry. Some visa types may require vaccination or medical information. But, some vaccinations are recommended.

A yellow fever vaccination is recommended for all regions in Brazil except: Fortaleza, Recife, Rio de Janeiro, Salvador and São Paulo.
