Health officials urge; now is the time to take steps to stay healthy this cold and flu season. Getting a flu shot is a good start.
The University of Rochester School Of Nursing is hosting 50 public flu clinics this month and next.
Clinic locations are all over the area; suburbs north, south, east and west. These Health Checkpoint clinics are open to people age nine and older. Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says it’s confident it has forecasted which flu strain will be most effective against the disease. Flu vaccine supply is plenty.
The Health Checkpoint flu clinic program through the U of R has 30,000 doses.
“Having a flu shot in there reduces overall how it spreads in the community. It reduces the likelihood you'll pick up the disease and how sick you'll be if you get the disease,” said Bill Russell, director of Passport Health at the U of R. "You can't get the flu from the flu shot."
