Jimothy Rogers, BM, (Music Director)  studied at the Peabody Preparatory of Music and received his Bachelors degree from the University of Cincinnati, College-Conservatory of Music in Piano Performance. He has performed in major U.S. cities. Internationally, he was featured as soloist at the Amalfi Coast Music Festival, Italy, for their annual collaborative recital.

He is the founder of Tonal Concepts (.com), a music production, publishing and performance company, which is honored to be presenting the featured musical presentation for Rethink Africa.

AFRICAN DANCERS


Mari Andrea Travis is the principal dance teacher at Willa Bland’s Flair Dance Studio, located in Catonsville, MD, now operating in its 42nd year. She began studying ballet, tap, and jazz at the age of 5 and by age 9, was one of fifteen performers selecting to sing and dance for thousands at the Major League All Star game at Camden Yards in 1993. She entered the Baltimore school for the Arts in Baltimore at the age of 7 where she studied ballet and voice.

She graduated from Morgan State University with a degree in Theater Arts and Dance and has graduate studies at the American University in Washington, DC in Performing Arts Management.

She starred with Charles “Roc” Dutton in his original play From Jail to Yale where she portrayed Regan and in Shakespeare’s King Lear. Mari has numerous movies, commercials, and fashion shows to her credit. In the summer of 2010, the Baltimore Office of Promotion and the Arts contracted her to conduct a 3 day class in hip hop for Artscape festival participants.

Mari created the Mari Travis Dance Theater, under the umbrella of Flair Dance Studio. Mari Andrea Travis continues to build upon the Flair Studio legacy.

Anise Jones started studying dance, drama, and vocal music at age 7 and has made Flair Dancing Studio her performing arts home since age 13. She has achieved as a member of "Company A", Flair's premier professional dance troupe and also currently is a member of the Mari Travis Dance Theater. Her strengths lie in ballet, tap, and hip-hop. As a Flair dancer she has performed in a variety of venues for many different causes including a traveling Jazz Group led by Cab Calloway’s grandson, the Eubie Blake Center, the Kennedy Kreiger Center’s Festival of Trees, the Walters Art Museum, Security Square Mall, and the Arena Players play, Sincerely Satchmo .

Miss Jones’ life goal is to become a performing arts teacher and in the summer of 2010 she became an apprentice at the Flair Dance Studio’s Performing Arts Camp for girls aged 7-14, under the direction of camp administrator, Mari Travis.



Christine Catherine Wyatt started studying at Flare Dance Studio at age 9 where she studied ballet, point, tap, jazz, and hip-hop. She has appeared in many musicals and plays including: A Chorus Line, The Wiz, Working-A Sudbrook production and various other productions at the Arena Players, the nation’s oldest African American live theater. She has dedicated herself to Sudbrook’s Dance Company and is now premiering in Bryn Mawr’s dance company and Flair Studio’s professional performing ensemble, Company A.
Christine is also a proud member of the Mari Travis Dance Theater, under the umbrella of Flair Dance Studio and will be performing throughout the fall at various events and productions including Morgan State University’s Scholarship Dance performance in November.



VOCALIST

Shana Oshiro, soprano, is an alumna of Morgan State University. She has performed with the Baltimore Symphony in the Holiday Spectacular productions as a featured ensemble member, Opera Philadelphia in past productions of Margaret Garner and Porgy and Bess in the chorus, and Washington Savoyards Opera in this year's production of Treemonisha, performing the character Lucy and covering the title role. Notably, Shana served as Miss Maryland ‘07-’08 competing in the Miss America pageant in Las Vegas. She currently performs concert recitals as soloist, and for special events in addition to studying Music Therapy at Shenandoah Conservatory.
Shana continues to pursue educational and other career opportunities in operatic performance. Shana is principle in developing the vocal ensemble, to perform during Re-think Africa’s featured musical presentation, composed of vocalists primarily from the Morgan State University Choir.



MUSICIAN

Julius Schlosburg Currently residing in Baltimore MD, Julius Schlosburg has quickly become one of the most sought after percussionist in the area. Beginning as a rock drummer, Julius quickly realized that success was eminent in a variety of styles and genres. On any given night, Julius performs in the highly complex realm of straight ahead jazz and fusion, to Gospel music and Popular styles.
His experience and expertise has led him to perform in legendary venues such as The Belvedere Hotel, Club 347, and The Black Fox Lounge in Washington DC to name a few. His wealth of musical knowledge and insight provide the key idiomatically percussive elements during the featured musical presentation at Rethink Africa.



PHOTOGRAPHER

Joy Reinhardt's journey in art began at a young age when she found she felt happiest when expressing herself creatively. Since that time she has tried her hand in many different artistic mediums ranging from painting, to graphic design, to photography. However, her greatest fulfillment has come from her work in photography. Through the lens of her camera, Joy feels she is able to most effectively communicate a perspective that is all her own; freezing fleeting moments. Joy will graduate in spring 2011 from the University of Maryland with a degree in art and a concentration in design. She has shot photography for portraits, headshots, special events, traveling, as well as photojournalism.
